String Data 2022

7–10 Dec 2022

This annual workshop welcomes academics and industry practitioners at the interface of theoretical physics, mathematics, and computer science to discuss research directions centred on the application of machine learning and data science to open problems in fundamental theory, and equivalently the application of techniques from theory to describe the successes of machine learning.

In its sixth iteration, hosted at University of Cambridge, String Data 2022 invites academics and industry practitioners with research interest in fundamental physics to discuss how open problems can be addressed through the use of techniques from computer science. The exceptional growth of computational power and abundance of mathematical data naturally calls upon the prowess of experts with a firm grounding in data science. This workshop aims to continue to open doors between these fields for relevant discussion, and guide the directions for future research.

Consisting of five plenary talks per day, with intermediary discussion sessions, the workshop excitingly returns to an in-person format.
