Alexander Esterov

Prof. Esterov is an Arnold Fellow at LIMS. His research combines enumerative algebraic geometry, Galois theory and the geometry of polytopes.

Prof. Alexander I. Esterov is an Arnold Fellow at LIMS. He obtained his PhD at Moscow State University, during which he was winner of the Möbius Contest, which recognises the best mathematics research students in the country. He undertook postdoctoral positions at the University of Toronto, and at various institutes across Europe, before becoming Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics at HSE University, Moscow. Recently, he has been a Visiting Researcher at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. His research focuses on bringing together algebraic geometry, Galois theory, and the geometry of polytopes. He addresses problems in enumerative algebraic geometry concerned with how to count geometric objects and how to detect their symmetries. Outside of research, Alexander likes to hike and is passionate about classical music.
