Governor

1 Aug 2024

The London Institute is recruiting a new governor to raise money, grow the Institute and support our start-ups that develop our discoveries.

Background

The London Institute is a unique kind of research organisation. Even though we’re nonprofit, we operate with the ambition and speed of a 21st-century tech firm. While our trustees have a legal responsibility for the long-term continuity of the Institute, our governors are concerned with its short- and medium-term success. Because they are not tasked with the administrative responsibility of trustees, our governors are committed to raising money and supporting the institute. They also help us grow LIMS Ventures and the startups that it incubates.

Candidate

Governors are selected from a wide range of backgrounds, including business, finance, science and the arts. They tend to be world leaders in their fields. Governors need not live in Britain, but should visit the Institute often enough to stay abreast of its activities. ❧ Governors are appointed for three years. Those that share the Institute’s core values sometimes go 0n to become trustees.

Activities

Raise money for the Institute and advise on strategy. ❧ Advocate on behalf of the Institute to the government or businesses, and help us access talent in new territories outside of Britain. ❧ Visit the Institute from time to time and get to know its members, including the director, development director and finance director. ❧ Help develop LIMS Ventures, our start-up incubator for any of our discoveries that are fit for market.

London Institute

The London Institute for Mathematical Sciences is a new kind of research organisation that is dedicated to speeding up discovery. Our focus on peak performance and full-time research, and the level of support we offer our scientists, empower them to make the biggest breakthroughs. ❧ The Institute is based inside the Royal Institution in Mayfair, which lays claim to 15 Nobel prizes and the discovery of 10 chemical elements and the principles of electromagnetism. ❧ You can learn more about the London Institute at our About, Values and Opinions pages.
