Watching quantum fields evolve: partons and thermalisation on quantum computers

Jiunn-Wei Chen shows how quantum computers can turn field theory into a laboratory for particles and gauge fields coming to equilibrium.
Quantum field theory describes nature at its deepest, yet many of its core phenomena remain hard to compute. Jiunn-Wei Chen presents two recent quantum-computer calculations: parton distributions in the Schwinger model and thermalisation in SU(2) lattice gauge fields. The talk explains how quantum simulation probes real-time dynamics, relativistic bound states and how thermal behaviour emerges from unitary evolution.
Jiunn-Wei Chen is a Distinguished Professor of Physics at National Taiwan University, where he directs the Center for Theoretical Physics. A nuclear theorist, he works on effective field theory, weak interactions, lattice QCD, quantum phases and the cosmological constant problem.
