Whether the six-dimensional sphere carries a complex structure is a longstanding puzzle. Dr Nikon Kurnosov examines a recent AI-assisted construction by Claude, guided by Levent Alpöge. Drawing on Phil Engel’s geometric account, he sets out the problem and explains the approach to the proof. The talk begins at a level accessible to those with undergraduate mathematics before moving into more advanced details of the proof.

Dr Nikon Kurnosov is a Khodorkovsky Research Fellow at the London Institute. He holds degrees in mathematics, chemistry and materials science, and has two PhDs. His work focuses on complex geometry, hyperkähler geometry, Calabi-Yau manifolds, algebraic geometry and automorphisms.
