Caltech in London
6:30PM, 24 Jun 2025
Caltech alumni gather at the London Institute to catch up on Caltech news and hear a discussion on how Britain can help American science.
The Special Relationship between America and Britain has never been more special than in science. That relationship is now being put to the test. According to Nature, the number of scientists looking to leave America has recently risen by a third. The question is: what is Britain doing to support them? In a recent article in The Spectator, the Director of the London Institute, Thomas Fink, banged the drum for creating new scientific posts that are earmarked for Americans.
This event is first and foremost for Caltech alumni and postdocs. Prof. Thomas F. Rosenbaum, the President of Caltech, will begin proceedings with an update on Caltech news. There will then be a conversation between Prof. Rosenbaum and James Arroyo OBE, the Director of the Ditchley Foundation, about how British science should respond to recent proposed cuts to the American state funding of science. The discussion will be chaired by Thomas Fink and will be open to questions from guests.
